Atul Kochhar to open ‘Mathura’ in Westminster, following success of Kanishka

Mathura

This September Atul Kochhar will open the doors to a second central London restaurant, Mathura, in Westminster. Named after the capital city of King Kanishka, an emperor of the Kushan dynasty in the second century, the 200-cover restaurant and bar will be housed in the former Westminster Fire Station. The 5000 square foot site in Victoria is both a conversion of an existing Grade II listed building and a new build, mixed-use residential project from design-led development managers Alchemi Group. The Mathura team have appointed Rosendale Design, the interior designers behind the likes of The Game Bird, The Ninth and Cabotte, to oversee the project.

A celebrated restaurateur, television personality and cookery book author, Kochhar was the first Indian chef in the world to receive a Michelin star at the acclaimed Tamarind of Mayfair in 2001. Mathura is a collaborative project with Tina English, a recognised innovator of London’s Indian dining scene with whom Kochhar successfully opened Kanishka earlier in 2019. Mathura’s menu will stay true to the signature Indian flair for which Kochhar is known, continuing to use premium, locally sourced British produce while offering unique and unexpected elements which set it apart from his previous restaurants.
