The Chelsea Flower Show, undoubtedly the most hotly anticipated horticultural event of the calendar returns with aplomb on the 24th of May. Offering up stunning and precisely preened greenery, the exhibition is a huge draw for people all over the world. As crowds marvel at the intricacies on show, it is rumoured that Diarmuid Galvin’s ‘British Eccentrics Garden’ will somehow spring into life, and Peter Eustance’s acoustic garden will even play musical notes. While these magicians conjure up a feast for the eyes, ears and nose, we’ve rounded up some restaurants who in homage to our floral friends are offering up something just as beautiful but perhaps with a little more bite…

Hawthorn’s Gin Palace at the Chelsea Flower Show

Hawthorn’s Gin will offer show goers the chance to while away some time in their self-named Gin palace. Located on the Alitex stand the conservatory space is the perfect spot to take a break from all the garden gazing to appreciate the wonders of this botanical gin blend. Made up of no less than 10 botanicals, Hawthorn’s recently won a competition of its own, becoming a Gold medalist at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition earlier in the month. Blossoming menus at Avenue, St James’s

Using seasonal ingredients adorned with edible flowers, Avenue, St James’s has specially created a floral themed menu and cocktails list. Fresh from the garden they offer up a dish of pickled cucumber & strawberry with fennel pollen, scallop ceviche, vanilla and pink peppercorn. While on the cocktail side, blends include lychee and lemongrass sour, elderflower sour and cherry blossom sour; without a doubt the perfect way to toast Chelsea Flower Show week.

Octopus Olivio - LIMA

Michelin-starred LIMA and aptly name LIMA Floral, will be championing rare and unusual flowers as a celebratory addition to their Peruvian dishes. Choose to dine on the delectable braised octopus and it will be adorned with vene cress and delicately plated pansies, while the perfect floral toast has to be the Chilanco Rosa, a pisco-based cocktail shaken with lime and hibiscus flower and topped with ginger ale.

Oranate floral terrace and flower-inspired menus at German Gymnasium

German Gym - Ikebana Blossom City Cocktail

 

The beautiful terrace at Grade II listed restaurant, German Gymnasium will be transformed with a floral tribute to the    show. The menu has also been specially designed to bring the outside in. A favourite of ours is the crisp dandelion salad, with fresh raspberries, acacia blossom honey dressing and rhubarb and custard with elderflower ice-cream. The cocktails too have taken their lead from all things floral, blending edible blooms, fresh fruits and floral infusions. We’d love to try Ikebana, based on the Japanese art of flower arranging, which blends Tanqueray 10, elderflower cordial, matcha and lemon juice and garnished with a single, edible orchid. http://www.germangymnasium.com/

RHS Chelsea Flower Show at Tom’s Kitchen

Tom’s Kitchen Chelsea has decided to collaborate with local florist, Lavender Green Flowers. Expect to see hops draped around pillars and the ground floor bursting with flowers and foliage. You may even be tempted to eat the table centrepieces, which will include herbs and flowers such as nasturtium, elderflower and lemon basil.
