If you (like us) thought that sangria was just wine and lemonade, then you couldn’t be more wrong. At Ametsa they have sangria down to a fine art. We were lucky enough to have attended their very first sangria masterclass and it was a resounding success!
The evening started at 6.30pm in the stylish hotel bar with a delicious sherry mojito.
We were then moved into a private dining room, where we were greeted by the in-house expert sommelier Alvaro Prieto. After a short introduction to the history of sangria, we were guided through making the first recipe of a peachy white wine sangria which was delicious and refreshing – perfect for a hot summers evening.
The next recipe was for a strawberry sangria infused with summer berry liqueur, which was delectably fruity. After we had finished our drinks, Alvaro began the demonstration of how to create the legendary Ametsa sangria. With a complex combination of Cointreau, brandy, dried figs and peaches, it was a truly authentic taste of Spain. We even were given a lovely half litre bottle of their signature sangria to enjoy at home.
Each sangria was perfectly paired with a canapé designed to enhance the flavours of the drink. Alvaro was always on hand to offer interesting insights into the art of sangria and the different variations available around the World.
Whether it’s a date night, after work drinks or just a fun summer event, the sangria masterclass is an exciting alternative to any usual pub or bar.
