At Sauce we’re always on the lookout for new masterclasses, courses and events to further our knowledge and skills. Where better to do this than with the experts themselves!

We’ve compiled a list of interactive courses for your perusal…

The London Flower School

Due to open its doors in vibrant King’s Cross in May, the London Flower School founded by Wagner Kreusch, former Head Tutor at McQueens Flower School, and Helen Dyson, an experienced teacher and florist, will teach students the art and business of floristry. Whether a beginner or an experienced florist, the school offers a variety of courses in an innovative learning environment. Students will learn floristry techniques, both classic and contemporary, create beautiful arrangements and be inspired to explore the world of flowers. Alongside learning floristry skills, students will gain practical tools for building their own business. The energy and creativity of the city is integral to the school. The London Flower School will take its inspiration from London’s people, art, culture and events. Doors will open in spring; the first short course will take place on 9th May and first career course will run from 22nd May to 19th June.

Arabica Bar & Kitchen cookery courses

As Britain’s love affair with Middle Eastern cuisine continues to grow, chef and founder of Arabica, James Walters and Executive Chef, David Jones decided to begin hosting monthly market tours, cookery classes and Levantine feasts in The Cookhouse.

Priced at £115 pounds per person, each hands-on cookery class will start with warm pastries and Turkish coffee at Arabica Bar & Kitchen. Coffee will be followed by a whistle stop tour of Borough Market, where Walters and Jones will pick up seasonal produce from a handful of their favourite stalls to be incorporated into the cookery session. The Borough Market Cookhouse, located above Three Crown Square, is an open plan kitchen and dining space that boasts impressive views out over the Market. At The Cookhouse students will produce an array of seasonal mezze dishes featuring some of Arabica’s larder essentials, such as freeke, preserved lemons, sumac, pomegranate molasses and za’atar. The day concludes with an informal meal, enjoying the food cooked paired with Lebanese wine, baklawa pastries and fresh mint tea.

Aquavit masterclasses at Aquavit London

This month, Aquavit London will launch a series of aquavit masterclasses, presented by aquavit expert and brand ambassador for Amathus, Jon Anders Fjeldrud. Housing one of the largest collections of aquavit in the UK, Aquavit London will host classes designed to guide guests through the history, distilling process and flavours of this quintessential Scandinavian spirit.

Paired with a small smorgasbord tasting, prepared by Executive Chef Henrik Ritzén, the masterclasses will showcase an extensive range of aquavits from O.P. Anderson served from the restaurant’s very own bespoke drinks trolley, including Original Klar, 125th Jubilee, Elderflower, Petronella and Skåne – also available to cater for those in the main dining room.  In addition, guests have the option to stay and dine in the main restaurant after the masterclass to enjoy a dinner from Aquavit’s authentic Nordic à la carte menu.

Dating back to the fifteenth century, Aquavit London’s namesake spirit gets its distinctive flavour from spices and herbs such as cumin, caraway and dill, and is often associated with celebrations such as Christmas, Easter and traditional crayfish dinners throughout the Nordic countries.

In keeping with the stylish décor of the restaurant, this classic Scandinavian tipple is served from unique Schnapp Fish decanters, designed by Svenskt Tenn, alongside a creative cocktail list that celebrates classic recipes with a Nordic twist, such as Scandi Mule, Bergen Bitter, Nordfjord and Kalhygge.

The masterclasses will take place one Monday of each month, as part of a collaborative initiative with neighbouring restaurants throughout St James’s Market. Read more and book here.
