Sauce Loves… Canada Day

Sauce-Loves-Canada-Day

With Canada Day on Saturday 1st July, we were lucky enough to experience Little Social’s new Canadian pop up, better known as Little Social Eh!

The Canadian Chef Patron Cary Docherty’s restaurant is decked out with rustic hunting and fishing paraphernalia, weathered wooden signage and vintage antler chandeliers. Sheepskin throws and a mounted deer head centrepiece feature, allowing for a lodge-like ambience in which to enjoy classic Canadian dishes.

The menu is orientated around well-loved Canadian staples. We started off with Canada’s famed poutine, a dish of crispy chips and cheese curds topped with thick gravy, which was garnished with truffle and foie gras shavings for Little Social-style decadence. As well as the poutine, we ordered a delicate dish of crab, uni and lardo on toasted brioche, a creamy spinach and artichoke dip served with crisp toasted baguette and a creamy slice of chicken liver parfait, garlanded with dots of cherry sauce.

For mains, we opted for the whole-grilled Nova Scotia lobster, accompanied by fries, greens and salad, as well as confit salmon served on a cedar plank lemon with a warm potato salad.

We finished the evening off with nostalgic sweet treats from Cary’s childhood, including the Canada’s signature no-bake ‘Nanaimo’ bar, comprising a base layer of wafer crumb, topped with custard-flavoured butter icing and covered in melted chocolate, as well as a quintessentially Canadian butter tartThe star pudding had to be the Beaver Tail with maple custard and cinnamon sugar (think of the best doughnut you have ever met, squashed flat to resemble a, um, beaver tail) – it’s an absolute must-order!
