Oh what a night! On the 13th of June 2016, Osteria Francescana the three Michelin starred restaurant owned by Massimo Bottura was ranked number one at The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards in New York. The ceremony was attended by Massimo Bottura, his wife and communications director Lara Gilmore as well as Sauce’s own Director of International Sarah Canet.

October 2016 saw the polymath’s polymath, Nathan Myhrvold launching his Modernist Bread website with pre-orders of his 5 volume encyclopedia going live. News of this long awaited follow up to his Modernist Cuisine series of extraordinary mega books, revealed photography a regular updates and pre-order sales have risen like a well managed dough. Modernist Bread reflects more than four years of independent research by Myhrvold and his team of chefs, scientists, photographers, and editors, as well as collaborations with and counsel from industry leaders around the world.

In November 2016, the exceptional chef Ben Shewry, the chef-patron of Attica restaurant collaborated with Cristopher Kostow of the 3 Michelin starred Meadowood Restaurant for Gelinaz! Two2. The chef’s equivalent to a game of international chef shuffle. As Kate Sweney of Haute Living who attended the dinner described it : at Meadowood, Shewry was inspired by Kostow’s embracement of all things Napa to craft a delicious 11-course menu. Riches of the Napa Valley featured whipped creme fraiche, caviar, and gold leaf. Housemade seeded bread was served with a decadent vegemite butter. Potatoes that were exactly 59 days and 6 hours old tasted fresh, young, and almost raw, although they were cooked. In 2017 Shewry will host the food world when the World’s 50 Best Restaurants rolls into town. Attica is Australia’s highest ranked restaurant at 33.

The 12forward app was soft launched by Lars Peder Hedburg co-founder of the leading Nordic region’s White Guide on the 15th December. 12forward covers some of the most luxurious restaurants in the world in such as Ducasse at Plaza Athenée in Paris however smaller hole in the wall places are also included. The restaurants in the cities are all deemed to be challenging and innovative. Some are radical and even renegade. This app is a must read guide for the gastronomically adventurous. 12forward is an initiative by White Guide, the leading Nordic restaurant guide system that is now expanding beyond the Nordic region. 12forward is currently available to download for iPhone users from the App store, android users will be satisfied in January 2017.

Talking of the Nordic region, On the 7th of December Niklas Ekstedt of Michelin starred Ekstedt restaurant and sommelier Maximilion Mellfors ran friends a family trials of his wine café Tyge and Sessil. This delightful little placed is officially launching on Christmas day. With a focus on natural wine and a location a few steps from his eponymous restaurant, the goal is to become an accwaaible and somewhat rowdy option for both the wine experts and the curious. The international trend of natural wine has mostly flown under the radar in Stockholm. Niklas and Maximilian hopes to change this with Tyge & Sessil.
