Tom Aikens is one of the UK’s most acclaimed and inspirational British chefs. His remarkable career has taken him to David Cavalier’s in Battersea, Pierre Koffmann’s La Tante Claire, Joel Robuchon in Paris, Gerard Boyer’s in Reims and Pied-à-Terre in London to name a few. At the latter Tom became the youngest ever British chef to be awarded two Michelin stars, aged just 26.
Tom remained at Pied-à-Terre for five years before opening his successful eponymous restaurant Tom Aikens (2003-2014), which received one Michelin star in 2004 and a second star in 2008.
Its little sister Tom’s Kitchen, a British Brasserie-style farm-to-table concept, first opened in Chelsea in 2006, before being rolled out in Somerset House (2009), in partnership with Compass Group, in Canary Wharf (2013) and in St Katherine’s Docks (2014). Tom’s Kitchen Delis are attached to the three newest sites. The fifth site, and the group’s international flagship, opened in Istanbul in 2013. Tom is also present in Hong Kong where he opened The Pawn, and launched a pork-themed restaurant – The Fat Pig – in November 2015, as well as in Dubai with a new sharing concept – Pots Pans & Boards – launched in September 2015. Tom consults for the recently opened Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire. He helped created 4 different restaurants, and Farm Shop and Deli on the 100 acre site, and consulted on the kitchen garden, curing, pickling, smoking and fermenting rooms. He designed menus, including for the extensive banqueting and room services. Tom lends his knowledge and time in sourcing and meeting with suppliers, changing menus and coming onsite to cook with team members, creating their own ginger beer, honey and preserves and cured meats.
Tom was one of four chefs on C4’s Iron Chefs UK. He has also appeared on BBC 2’s Market Kitchen, on the Good Food Channel, on the award winning Great Chefs, and on BBC 2’s Great British Menu in 2011 and 2013, reaching the final banquet on the latter occasion. Tom recently made a series around Turkey for Fox’s 24 Kitchen Channel.
Tom’s first book Cooking was published by Ebury Press in 2006, followed by Fish in 2008 and Easy in 2011.
