A Borough Market institution serving classic British dishes

Standing majestically above London’s historic Borough Market, Roast uses seasonal ingredients to create classic British dishes of uncomplicated excellence. Since opening in 2005, the restaurant has become renowned for offering delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, popular with both locals and visitors alike.

Roast prides itself on working with passionate and skilled producers, with menus that celebrate ingredients such as beef from Lake District Farmers and Goosnargh poultry from Reg Johnson in Lancashire. Closer to home, the restaurant also works with many of the stallholders in the market below, including Bread Ahead, Cannon & Cannon, and Grovers and Turnips.

From the à la carte menu, guests can enjoy starters such as Orkney scallops with house-smoked saddleback and Yorkshire rhubarb or Chicken liver parfait with cherry compote, granola and sourdough. For mains, there are British classics including Steamed beef pudding or a selection of steaks from the grill, whilst guests can also choose from sharing options including Braised Brixham Turbot and Roasted East Anglian Chateaubriand. True to the restaurant’s name, the Full and Proper Roast Beef is also available throughout the week, served with Yorkshire pudding, rosemary roasties and horseradish cream. Alongside Roast’s acclaimed menu sits a carefully-curated, concise wine list that focuses on small producers and indigenous European grape varieties.

On Sundays, Roast comes into its own, offering a three-course menu of British Sunday lunch favourites. Following starters such as Salmon gravlax with cucumber relish, guests can choose from Roast Chicken, Lamb Shoulder, Pork Belly or Sirloin of Beef, served with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy. Nostalgic English desserts complete the experience, such as Sticky date pudding with toffee sauce and Apple and quince crumble with custard.

Over the years, Roast has also established a reputation for being one of Borough’s top breakfast destinations. All tastes and occasions are catered for, with options ranging from Bircher muesli and Toasted cottage loaf, to Grilled Orkney kippers with lemon butter and the Full Borough with eggs, smoked bacon, sausage, fried bread, black pudding, grilled tomatoes, field mushrooms and bubble ‘n’ squeak.

Roast To Go

Situated in Borough Market, at the foot of the entrance to the restaurant, the Roast To Go kiosk offers some of their favourite dishes in takeaway form. Breakfast butties are served from 7.30am whilst for lunch customers can enjoy everything from a simple Fish finger sandwich with tartare sauce to a Bone marrow burger, with field mushroom, blue cheese, grape must and English truffle mayonnaise.

Roast Kitchen

The team behind Roast in Borough Market are set to launch Roast Kitchen in Fitzrovia later this year. Roast Kitchen will be an all-day dining British restaurant, built on the same ethos as Roast but offering a more casual experience.
