Feng Sushi, London’s leading Japanese restaurant group, has opened an eighth site in West Hampstead. The new branch, an attractive corner site on West End Lane, heralds an important evolution in the Feng Sushi family: whilst retaining the signature kimono pattern design and fish tanks of sister restaurants, there is an increased level of service, comfort and ambience for those eating in. The interior, designed by London architects Stiff + Trevillian, features wood paneling in warm colours, subtle lighting, tables for couples and smaller groups as well as larger ones and comfortable seating in blue leather. In addition to 34 covers inside, there are several tables outside (16 covers) for al fresco dining.
The menu, similar to the other sites, includes Feng Sushi’s signature hot dishes such as tempura udon noodles soup, and seasonal specials which change six times a year in accordance with wild seafood seasons. The group works closely with small suppliers along the coastline to offer the best of the UK’s fish; specials might include Devon crab and hand-dived scallop donburi, rainbow trout sashimi or panko-crusted spring tofu. A large selection of top quality traditional and contemporary sushi and sashimi, Japanese-inspired salads and soups is also available, and a range of cocktails, hot and cold sakes and Japanese beers complements the modern Japanese menu perfectly.
Feng Sushi West Hampstead is the eighth launch from the award-winning company, and the second launch since Luke Johnson bought a majority share in 2010. Co-founder Silla Bjerrum retains a very hands-on role in the business and continues to oversee the menu as well as group operations. She also continues her commitment to sustainability: in March 2012 Feng Sushi won the Sustainable Cities Award in the food category.
